ENGL100: Composition for Non-native
Speakers of English (4 credits)
ENGL101: Composition (3 credits)
Either course can be used to fulfill the First-Year Composition requirement.
ENGL100 includes an extra hour of class time per week to focus on grammar
and mechanics. Each course assists students in their transition into the
literacy practices expected in the university at large. This course should
be taken in the freshman year.
ENGL302: Advanced Composition (3
credits)
This course is offered in four versions:
It focuses on the advanced research and writing students can expect in their majors. Some departments require students to take a particular version. We strongly encourage students to consult with their academic advisors and enroll in the version which best matches their major field of study. The prerequisites for this course are a minimum of 45 credits and successful completion of ENGL101. This course should be taken before the end of the junior year.
The goals for ENGL100/101 and ENGL302 indicate both the English Department's commitment to general education as well as its investment in the development of student writers capable of transferring what they have learned about writing and about themselves as writers to future writing situations.
