(Summer 2017)

Online

Section Information for Summer 2017

With the media landscape ever changing, leadership in media changes as well. Understanding how a television show or podcast is produced, how to create content for a media platform and lead others in a media environment are subjects covered in this course.

Media Management dives into issues such as human resources in a media environment, marketing media platforms in a competitive environment, legal and procedural aspects in traditional and digital media, theoretical aspects to media leadership and content creation, with emphasis on use of social media for promotion and marketing.

Through case studies, students are placed in a media leadership environment to resolve problems with content, human resources, ethical issues and more.

The major assignments requires the student, acting as an account executive for a radio or television station, to create a written marketing plan for a business trying to reach a market and grow their business. The written proposal includes traditional and digital marketing opportunities for the business.

This is an asynchronous course, with materials, lectures, tests, and assignments that can be accessed online any time. All quizzes and exams require use of the Respondus LockDown browser, a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within Blackboard course sites. While using LockDown Browser, students are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications during an online test.

COMM 359 A01 is a distance education section.
