Mason Topics

Each year, certain sections of ENGL101, ENGL201 and ENGL202 are linked to introductory courses in other disciplines as part of the Mason Topics Program. All students in each of these English classes are also enrolled in one of these other classes. The faculty teaching these linked classes work together to highlight key concepts and skills through shared reading and writing assignments, and out-of-the-classroom learning experiences. In recognition of the extra time commitment involved in teaching a linked course, instructors are paid a stipend in addition to the regular compensation they receive from the English Department. Mason Topics linked courses are organized into four different sequences, each focused on a different theme: American Experience, Classical Presence, Global Village, and Information Society.

The faculty have been selected for their commitment to working with first-year students in innovative ways. If you are interested in being considered to teach in this program, please contact Teresa Michals, Director, at tmichals@gmu.edu.
