English 101 is a prerequisite for all English general education requirements.

You can only register for one exam.
DESCRIPTION: The exam is a skills assessment 3-hour essay exam.
COST: None
WHAT TO BRING: Pen or pencil to sign your honor code agreement.
NOT PERMITTED: electronic dictionaries, thesaureses, translators or language dictionaries, diskettes, zip drives or other materials.
WHO IS NOT ELIGIBLE: You are ineligible to take the English 101 placement test if your University Freshman Composition requirement is considered met, in progress, or exempt by GMU.**
**Students who have completed an AA degree in the VCCS system should check with their advisers, as they may already be exempt.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Any enrolled or newly admitted student who has not transferred in an ENGL 100/101 equivalent from another university, received a NC in a previous course or a student who received a NP three semesters prior to the term for which he/she is registering. This means that if you received a NP in SU07, you are eligible again SU08.
RESULTS NOTIFICATION: Results are distributed via George Mason email only. Results will not be left on voicemail. Summer exam results are not returned until the week before the Fall semester begins. Spring and Fall exam results are issued within a month of the exam.
WHAT DO THE RESULTS MEAN? If you receive the exemption before June 1, 2010, you will earn three credit hours, and your transcript will reflect that you have met the ENGL 101 general education requirements.
