Composition faculty awarded 2018 emergent researcher award by the CCCC

The Archive of Workplace Writing Experiences (AWWE), an early-stages research project by Professors Brian Fitzpatrick (George Mason University) and Jessica McCaughey (George Washington University) was recently awarded a 2018 Emergent Researcher Award grant of $8,000 by the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). This award, given to researchers early in their careers, will fund the AWWE project for the foreseeable future, allowing Professors Fitzpatrick and McCaughey to continue to interview workplace writers, archive and catalogue their responses, and create academic and professional resources for students, faculty, and employers.

The Archive of Workplace Writing experiences seeks to learn more about how successful workplace writing occurs, and how writers learn and transfer skills from academic to professional writing spaces, with the ultimate goal of creating lesson plans, assignments, workshops, and other materials for school and workplace use. The Archive has recently completed an initial phase of 20 interviews and data collection and is preparing for a second phase of recruitment and interviews this Spring. If you’d like to learn more about the AWWE project or participate in it yourself, you can find the Archive of Workplace Writing Experiences at www.workplace-writing.org.
