Waivers

Waiver of the English 101 Requirement

Enrolled or newly admitted Mason students are eligible to apply for a waiver of ENGH 101 if they have not:

• transferred in an equivalent to ENGH 100/101 from another university
• already completed ENGH 100/101 or are not currently taking the course
• received the AP score required to receive an ENGH 101 waiver
• received and NP three semesters prior to the term for which they are registering.

Waiver of the English 302 Requirement

Any student who meets eligibility requirements may apply for a waiver of ENGH 302. Students need to present writing samples that demonstrate proficiency equal to that of students who have successfully completed ENGH 302 and pass a two-hour written essay exam. Students must write the essay exam within six months from the date of notification of eligibility.
