Celebrated Professor and Scholar Dr. Gesa Kirsch to visit GMU

Dr. Gesa Kirsch, professor and feminist scholar, will visit George Mason University on Thursday, October 18. Kirsch has been a professor of English and Media Studies at Bentley University for 17 years, intermittently teaching as a visiting professor at Syracuse University, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, University of New Hampshire and University of Oregon. She has published numerous books on feminist research and rhetoric. She is the recipient of numerous awards for teaching and scholarship.

 

Her talk is titled, “The Advocacy, Activism, and Rhetorical Savvy of Dr. Mary Bennett Ritter, MD, and her Contemporaries.” Dr. Mary Bennett Ritter, an American physician, was an advocate for women’s rights during the late 19th century and early 20th century. Ritter was known for serving the poor and rich on a sliding scale and providing free services to those in need. The talk will take place at 2pm in the Johnson Center Room F. A reception will follow.
