From teaching talks to panel presentations, composition faculty will share their teaching and scholarship on issues including authentic assessment and teaching with a linguistic justice ethos.

Catherine Saunders and Katherine Miscavige along with Leslie Goetsch, Christina Grieco, and Courtney Adams Wooten are some of the many composition faculty contributing to the conversations on teaching with writing. Here are the sessions they will present at the ITL conference.

"Teaching Writing Through Linguistic Justice Frameworks" (11AM | JC Room F)

Catherine Saunders alongside Leslie Goetsch, Christina Grieco, Katherine Miscavige, and Courtney Adams Wooten will discuss the linguistic justice work done with the support of a Stearns Center ARIT Grant in the Composition Program. In this panel, audience members will engage with and discuss ways to adapt resources developed by a linguistic justice faculty working group and consider how they can take up linguistic justice approaches in their courses.

"Using Models as a Teaching Tool to Increase Student Success on Assignments" (Part of the "Teaching Talks on Authentic Assessment" Panel) (2PM | JC Room D)

On this panel, Katherine Miscavige will discuss "Using Models as a Teaching Tool to Increase Student Success on Assignments". She will share 2-3 specific techniques for using assignment models as teaching tools to engage students with assignment goals and help them to be more successful in meeting those goals while still producing original work.

Many of this year's conference proceedings and the keynote address will also discuss the role and impact of A.I. in education.

Mason's ITL conference, which is a free event, gathers faculty and staff to exchange their ongoing teaching and research ideas and grow a community of informed educators who cultivate inclusive excellence.

Thanks to Saunders, Miscavige, Goetsch, Grieco, and Adams Wooten for contributing to this year's teaching and learning conversations.
