Overview

Welcome to the Directed Self Placement process at George Mason University. This process will help you: 

• understand the different options for your first-year writing course (Mason’s requirement for Written Communication Level 1)
• reflect on your own experiences with writing, reading, and research
• determine what first-year writing course would best support your learning and writing development 

This process will take approximately 20-30 minutes. You will review information, answer questions about yourself, and decide what course would be the best fit for you.
